Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya’s beautiful wildlife gems. The park can be reached through several gates/entry points. Travelers can come by road or by air. There are five main entry gates into Amboseli National Park. These are Meshanani Gate, Kimana Gate, Iremito Gate, Amboseli Airport Gate, and Kitirua Gate. Visitors can use these gates for both entry and exit.
Amboseli National Park is one of the most popular parks in Kenya. There are many activities and attractions for travelers to enjoy throughout the year. The park offers great chances for taking photos with a wonderful wildlife background. It lies under the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, which is the tallest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world.
Some of the attractions include different types of plants such as woodlands, savanna plains, thick bushes, and swamps.
The park gates open at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. If you are flying to Amboseli, there is one main airstrip in the park. Some lodges and camps also have private airstrips.
Kitirua Gate
Kitirua Gate is one of the five land gates to Amboseli National Park. It is open all year round. The gate is in the southwestern part of the park.
This area is a bit dry and remote but offers beautiful views. From here, you can also see clear views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The gate is near Kitirua Hill. It has many services, including payment for park activities. The gate accepts electronic payments.
There is a ranger post and a command center, and you can get a ranger guide here if needed.
Iremito Gate
Iremito Gate is located in the eastern part of the park. It is about a five-hour drive from Nairobi. The gate has several facilities.
The Kenya Wildlife Service has an office here where you can pay for park services, including by electronic payment.
There are small shops where you can buy snacks and souvenirs. Clean flush toilets are available. There is a ranger post and an information center to help visitors.
Kimana Gate
Kimana Gate is the oldest and most developed gate. It is probably the busiest gate in Amboseli National Park. It is open all year and located in the southeastern part of the park.
The gate has many facilities similar to Iremito, including the Kenya Wildlife Service office, electronic payment, shops, clean toilets, a ranger post, and an information center.
Amboseli Airport Gate
Amboseli National Park has one official airstrip. Some lodges and camps have private airstrips as well. The main airstrip has a runway about 1,200 meters long.
There are flights from Nairobi and Arusha to this airstrip. Flights from Nairobi take about 30 to 40 minutes.
The airstrip is near the Empusel Gate. This gate offers shops for snacks and souvenirs, clean flush toilets, and a ranger post for guides or help.
Meshanani Gate
Meshanani Gate is in the northwestern part of Amboseli National Park. It is close to the Namanga border with Tanzania. Visitors coming from Tanzania can easily use this gate.
The gate has many facilities, including the Kenya Wildlife Service office where you can pay for park services with electronic payments. Shops selling snacks and souvenirs are nearby.
Clean flush toilets are available. There is a ranger post and an information center to assist visitors.
