Since its establishment in 1972, the elephant population in Amboseli National Park has been identified. Information on births, deaths, and behavior has been gathered. The Amboseli Elephant Research Camp is a fantastic location for Kenya safaris. It provides park visitors with an incredible opportunity to learn more about elephants. As a result, the Amboseli Elephant Research Project—which led to the construction of the Elephant Research Camp—became an essential resource for baseline elephant data.
The charity Amboseli Trust for the Elephants is in charge of the long-term Elephant Research Project. It investigates the ethology of African elephants by examining social behavior, age distribution, and population dynamics. With almost 2000 individual elephants’ life histories and association patterns collected, it is the longest-running study of elephant behavior in the wild.
Elephants Research Camp
Elephants Research Camp has the largest number of elephants among the conservation areas in Kenya and probably in the region. There is a lot of research and documentaries that have been done here. Most works of research here are due to the prior research by Dr Cynthia Moss. The elephant research here is run by the Amboseli Trust for Elephants. The camp is usually not open for casual visit but you can notify your tour operator and then they will in turn book you a visit to this camp prior to your arrival. While here you will have an hour with some of the researchers and do a simple lecture as well. The visit is not cheap though.
