Key Park Rules for Visitors – Amboseli National Park Guidelines

Amboseli National park is one of the most popular safari destinations in Kenya. It’s sought after due to its stunning views and abundant wildlife. There are various activities from game drives and other safari adventures and probably this is what makes this park one of the best in Kenya. The park is one of the wildlife areas that are still so original and untouched by human activity almost in the entire region. That is the feeling that most travelers come to have a taste of.

The Amboseli National park is located in the southern areas of Kenya. It’s in the Kajiado County. The park covers an area of about 392 square Kilometers. Most of the park is covered in plains. There are areas that have low lands. There is a dry Lake basin that is also a seasonal lake called Lake Amboseli. The vegetation is savanna with some mixture of woodlands, thickets and swamps.

The park is surrounded by the Masai people who used to inhabit the park before it was gazzetted for wildlife. The Masai people also name this national park. The Park has some arid areas as well as swampy area and therefore the wildlife can survive here with no difficulty as they have a mixture of the two. The swampy areas support a lot of wildlife but mostly the bird population in this park. There are about 420 bird species that have been recorded here.

The park derives its name from the indigenous Masai people that inhabited this place. The word ‘Amboseli’ means Salty dust in the Masai language.  There are many reasons to love this national park. Due to the large herd of Elephants in the Amboseli National park, this is probably the best area in Africa were one can do documentaries and research on elephants.
