November is a transition month into the dry season. Although it is still a wet month, some heat carries over from the previous months.
November in Amboseli is wet, but that does not mean it will rain all the time. Being near the equator, the weather can be sunny or rainy at any time of the year.
For example, May receives over 250 mm of rain. The average temperature is usually around 28°C during the day and about 18°C at night. Days last about 12 hours, with the sun rising around 6:20 a.m. and setting at 5:40 p.m.

What to Pack for Your Amboseli November Safari
First, be open-minded and ready for adventure. Bring enough storage space to save all the lasting memories you will make. Wear comfortable clothes—avoid heavy or tight clothing.
Choose clothes that are easy to wash and dry so you can reuse them during your safari. Avoid bright colors on game drives because they may scare the animals.
Most game drives happen in the morning. Bring some warm clothes you can remove when the sun comes out and it gets hot. Wearing clothes in layers works best.
Important items to pack for your Amboseli safari include:
- Clothes in khaki, neutral, or dull colors
- Many long-sleeved shirts to protect against mosquitoes and insects
- Light t-shirts
- Shorts or skirts, if you prefer
- Sweaters for cold mornings and evenings
- Jeans and safari pants
- A light rain jacket, since rain can happen any time
- Swimwear for swimming or beach visits
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, insect repellent, moisturizer, and lip balm
- Camera with spare batteries and memory cards
- Binoculars and a scope if you have them
Most airlines limit luggage to between 15 and 24 kilograms, so pack carefully. Many lodges offer laundry services, so you can wash and reuse clothes during your trip.
Other useful but less important items to bring are:
- Personal toiletries like shampoo, soap, deodorant, hairbrush, toothpaste, conditioner, and toothbrush
- Wipes, hand sanitizer, and sanitary products for women
- Scissors and a pocket knife
- An alarm clock to keep track of time
- A money pouch or belt for safety
- Field guide books
- A pen and notebook
Packing well will help you enjoy your Amboseli safari comfortably and safely.
