The Wet Season in Amboseli National Park
The wet season is split into two parts: a short rainy season and a long rainy season.
- November to December: These months bring the short rains. You can expect occasional showers and afternoon storms. The short rains bring fresh green leaves to the park, marking the change from dry to wet season.
- January to February: This is a short dry period between the two wet seasons. The weather is usually very hot during this time.
- March to May: These are the months of the long rains, with April being the wettest. The heavy rains refill lakes and water sources that had dried up. The plants become green and full, and many migratory birds arrive, making this the best time for bird watching in Amboseli. However, heavy rain can make some roads muddy and hard to travel.
The Dry Season in Amboseli National Park
Dry weather with clear skies and bright sunshine makes the dry season the best time for game viewing. This is the busiest time for tourism in the park. The dry conditions are also great for photography.
- Mid-June to early October: Rain is very rare during these months. Plants dry up, and the sparse vegetation makes it easier to see animals. Many water sources dry up, so the few that remain become popular spots for wildlife.
Daytime temperatures during this season range from 77 to 86°F (25 to 30°C). At night, temperatures drop to between 50 and 59°F (10 to 15°C).
