Inside Amboseli National Park is a large dry lake basin called Lake Amboseli. This lake is seasonal, which means it fills with water during the rainy season and dries up when the dry season comes. When there is water, the lake becomes a popular spot for wildlife.
One of the main animals that enjoy the lake is the African elephant. Elephants love to play and splash in the water to cool off, especially when the sun is hot. It is common to see big herds of elephants around the lake during the rainy months.
Lake Amboseli also attracts other water-loving animals, including hippos and crocodiles. Some species of fish live in the lake when it holds water. Even in dry seasons when the lake mostly dries up, some small pools may remain.

Amboseli National Park is one of the most famous parks in Kenya. It lies near the border with Tanzania, just northwest of Mount Kilimanjaro. The park covers an area of 392 square kilometers. Its landscape is made up of open Savannah, acacia woodlands, rocky bushes, swamps, and the dry basin of Lake Amboseli.
