What to Pack for Your Amboseli June Safari

Start by having an open mind and be ready to enjoy the adventure. Bring enough storage space for photos and videos so you can keep memories of your trip.

Wear comfortable clothes. Avoid heavy or tight clothing. Choose clothes that are easy to wash and dry quickly in case you need to reuse them during the safari.

Avoid bright colors, especially during game drives, as they may disturb the animals. Game drives are usually done in the early morning when it is cool.

Carry warm clothes, but wear layers so you can adjust as the day gets warmer.

Essential items to pack:

  • Clothes in khaki, neutral, or dull colors
  • Long-sleeved shirts to protect against mosquitoes and insects
  • Light t-shirts
  • Shorts or skirts
  • Sweaters for cool mornings and evenings
  • Jeans or safari pants
  • Light rain jacket (rain can fall at any time)
  • Swimwear or beachwear
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, insect repellent, moisturiser, and lip balm
  • Camera with extra battery and memory cards
  • Binoculars or a scope if you have one

Most airlines allow between 15 to 24 kilograms of luggage. Keep this in mind while packing. Many lodges have laundry services, so you can wash and reuse clothes during your trip.

Other useful items to include:

  • Toiletry bag with shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, conditioner, and hairbrush
  • Wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and sanitary products for ladies
  • Small scissors and a pocket knife
  • Alarm clock to help manage time
  • Money pouch or money belt
  • Field guidebooks
  • A pen and notebook

These items will help make your safari more comfortable and enjoyable.

You can visit Amboseli National Park at any time of the year. The park has two main seasons, and each one comes twice a year. The wet season runs from March to mid-June and again from October to December.

The dry season runs from December to February and mid-June to September. June is a transition month. Even though it is part of the dry season, some rain from May may still continue into early June.
