How to Get to Amboseli National Park & What to Expect

LOCATION OF AMBOSELI

Amboseli National Park is surrounded by the Maasai people, who lived in the area before it was set aside as a protected wildlife park. The Maasai people also gave the park its name.

Amboseli has a mix of dry, arid areas and swampy regions. This combination of habitats allows many different animals to live and survive well in the park.

The swampy areas are especially important because they support a large number of animals, including many birds. In fact, over 420 bird species have been recorded in Amboseli, making it a great place for bird watching.

The name “Amboseli” comes from the Maasai language and means “salty dust.” This refers to the dusty, dry conditions found in some parts of the park. Amboseli is famous for its large herds of elephants.

Because of this, it is one of the best places in Africa to study elephants and make wildlife documentaries. Researchers and wildlife lovers come here to see these majestic animals in their natural home.
